«Very cool stuff Uber.
Especially liked the sound design, which was awesome throughout.
A lot of brilliant attention to detail here in all departments, which gave it a huge cinematic vibe and made the whole experience very believable.
Top job on this season opener.»
Enigma 3 ep 1 - Cry Havoc
«Very cool stuff Uber.
«That was pretty entertaining. It had an interesting feel to it. The modded costumes and sets really gave it a distinctive look and the space scenes were really well done. It jumped right into the action sequence and drew me in right from the start. I also loved some of the inside jokes.»
«The intro to this sci fi film suggests an truly epic movie.
I was very excited after watching that, but learned that this is actually a very uninteresting movie. It really barely kept my attention, and I find that odd, because the film undoubtabled looked fantastic with the mods, had some pretty good VA's, and has a pretty good script.
My first gripe would be the sound design, the use of music playing, the way the VA's sounded over all the crap that was going on. And as Norrie said, the Carl Orff song didnt fit at all, probably the most overused song in history, and it struck me as hilarious and campy when I heard it.
The direction. It just wasnt directed well, it was shot and all played out in a very abrupt and uninteresting manner, and I really want affected by the beginning of the film with the ship being attacked, with some help, that scene could of been much more interesting.
Also, the films use of sound effects on some things didnt compliment its great look at all, nearly ruined it, really.
Overall maybe a 2.5 outta 5»
«Spellbinding Effects and a knockout story starts Season three with a BANG!
I thought the story really picked up well and the characters as usual deliver some great banter and dialogue. I especially loved the techie lingo, which really suited this episode and scenario that the crew were faced with.
However the excellent action sequences really did it for me and gave the viewer a rush of adrenaline. This is one for keeps on my HD and I look forward to showing this to other Sci-fi friends.
Great start to Season 3, can't wait for EP2, until then...
Nuke Well in Havoc!!!!!!»
«I watched the download of the original from Vimeo.
At 15 seconds in, I couldn't hear the "previously on..." spiel. Drowned by incongruous music.
Speaking of beginnings, does anyone need three minutes of title sequences? Man it dragged for me.
The rest was pretty much what everyone else said I think, except for one thing.
Sound design and music are two different things. Too often, I felt, you swamped dialogue with complex sound AND inappropriate music.
Your use of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" was inappropriately placed (and uncredited).
Sound design means you need no music, that's the point; I felt you layered all three badly.
Oh, and there was a point where I saw a static shot, silent, for 11 seconds. God, it seemed longer! Really, what was that?
I don't rate films (oh, I can't with yours), but this was a struggle to last the 20 minute duration.
«Here we are seeing apinnacle of ENIGMA due to creative, collaborative efforts and a determination to make a film regardless of the odds. Exciting stuff here! Breath-taking as the ships collide! New sets! New uniforms! Nice character insight regarding O'Toole. Ken should be happy... what a part eh? I've watched this 4 times now and despite the common imbalances it is a splendid episode full of adventure and mayhem! So buckle up and warp with Hero and the Atlas!
«This was certainly an action packed episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it! At one point I even had chills up my spine as the ships collided. Not something that happens often for me while watching machinima, but it was just so cool!
A couple of minor gripes, and I'm sure you know about them already: Some VOs were drowned out by the music, or just didn't match the level of other VOs. And Hero's uniform seemed a bit wonky... not sure why. As I said: minor.
A terrific start to the new season, Uber (and co.) Well done to all! Film On!! »
«Anything that starts with "previously on" is going to get my attention every time...
Great opening sequence, I really liked the way the ships moved, they feel big and real.
Acting and story and great, Kwis really shines in this and its a good script by Nick.
At 21 min running time it was a good, exciting, smartly done flick.»
«The thing i love about this series , beside the story, VAs, spfx, music, etc is the fun you put in the little side scenes like the opening credits and some of the slower moments. I always get such a laugh out them...This episode didnt dissapoint.
Your escalation of the quality is amazing. It looks like the scale of the production has risen up another big notch and one wonders just how much you can raise it again and then my mind goes balistic. I cannot wait for the next installments.
Now for the not-so-good things: As some have pointed out, some of the sound effects are, shall we say, not on par with the visuals. On my rig, and i dont know if i'm the only one, some of the sound volumes where a bit off. The music would drown out some of the dialog in some scenes but not in others.
Some of the shots could have been just as effective if they had been slightly shorter, in my opinion, but overall the pace was very good.
A very good episode to kickstart the series, again.»
«Sick with effects and a story that i really liked, with a helluva cast in action.
This came off as one of the best episodes to date. While i didnt like the end credits song much, to out of sync with the series, for my taste, thats my only issue.
Otherwise a really solid and power packed episode. I also wanted to mention the dialog in this was really well done. In a sci fi setting full of techie speak, this one felt right and worked in both action scenes and the conversational bits. I enjoyed the deeper interactions.
Across the board this is why I love Enigma..its just to much fun to watch.
Nice work uber»
«Enigma returns in an explosive first episode that once again raises the bar in terms of what the series has to offer. With a nice little reminder of the previous episodes that seem such a long time ago now. We cut straight into what is probably my favourite title sequence so far.
The battle animations are superb however I will note that I did not think the choice of weapon firing sound effects worked well with the visuals and the arrival of Tobias' fleet seemed at odds with the CGI work (but I will assume you had no animation for that sequence so I'll leave it at that).
A nice selection of Voice Artists, help progress the story which adds some nice new development to the characters.
Overall a brilliant start to the series.
«Brilliant episode to launch off the next season. Visuals were amazing and the modding was great like always. Excellent sound effects and voice acting was great. Enigma in HD = win.
Worth the watch.
I can't wait to see the next one, best of luck with the rest of the series. »
«An Explosive start to Season 3!
Visually stunning. Loved the SFX & Custom Moddery.
Nice flow to the movie too, kept me hooked throughout.
I think my eyes dried out as I didn't want to blink & miss anything.
Great job by the other Cast members too, believable in their Roles.
Enjoyed all the sounds & BG music, also some nice editting & cam work happening.
This Nick Welburn fella isn't too bad at Directing a great Flick!
«Awesome. Just amazing Uber. The special effects for the battle scenes were top notch, especially when the two ships collided. The mods were also fantastic, used everywhere yet not distracting any attention from what was actually going on. Some of the acting seemed a little wooden for a few of the crew members but Hero was played very well and Ken was great as Ken I loved the mentions for TMU members made out on the loudspeaker, a nice touch. The pacing was blistering, and kept me on the edge of my seat right from the word go. I didn't know what was going on for most of the film, but man did I enjoy it A well earned 5 stars (if I could give a rating lol ) and I'm really looking forward to the next installment »
«Excellent work. The opening and closing credits are worthy of most movies. Another technically brilliant movie. The HD look is awesome. Great work in so many levels. My only critique would be to raise the volume on some of the VO. Terrific work to everyone involved and congratulations on this great series. »
«Woah, what an impressive display of pyrotechnics! That collision sequence brought a huge grin to my face, and my finger got blisters from clicking the rewind button watching that over and over again. The fighters were also darn impressive, with their exhaust wakes. Darn cool by all accounts. Enigma 3 is off to a heck of a start with this one! I can only imagine what you have in store for us for the rest of this season--actually, no I can't--this was beyond anything I could've imagined. Now for me to click the "Post Comment" button and pick myself off the floor.»
«Oh my goodness Uber! That was awesome! Oh man, I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. That action gave me goosebumps man! Truly worth the wait. Great story and graphics makes me salivate for your next installment of Enigma. Definitely enjoyed the acting all around.»
«That was really amazing stuff, Uber. More sophisticated intro and outro credits, looking good in HD on the Vimeo site, and the acting was pretty good, though I felt some of the scenes were lacking. Can't wait to see what else you came up with for enigma. A 4/5! Kinda anticlimactic, but the series came back strong.»
«ENIGMA SEASON 3 IS HERE FOLKS!
Wow...Uber you certainly raise the bar with the modded content and awesome tension you bring to the table.
There are some great visualfx, sets, and some great acting from our usual characters!
Just from what I have seen that coming up, Im definitely looking forward to the next installment of Engima!»
