Description:
Created for a TMO vs Moviestorm Action film contest that was canceled this film was created with the community as a whole. From Modders to VO’s we went for a heavyweight knockout. Given the theme “Lesser of Two Evils” Valentines Day is a story about just that. Set as the ending to a bigger film. The film is a showcase of TMO’s ability to make a knock out action film and since the contest allowed outside editing…this was our chosen project! Valentine is the city's most notorious crime figure and with a huge corruption trial looming over the city hes just snatched the key witness away and aims to show that there are bad guys and there are worse guys.

«Finally I have found this damn short. I have been a follower of Michael’s work for over 3 years now and really it was him who gave me the idea of using After Effects in my films.
Every now and then a pioneer of film making comes along and inspires others; Michael_B6 was that person for me.
This is just one of the amazing animated Machinma films he has created or helped to create.»
« I have seen this movie 10 times and everytime it makes me say michael_b6 when it comes to action, shooting bullets "YOU THE MAN"!»
«I've waited a long time to finally see this!
A Violent and brutal look at crime and corruption with some jaw dropping special effects!

«The Review(Taken from Zone Magazine issue 8):
Wow just wow, my first movie I watched on TMU, is wow. The effects are just out of this world, it looks like I’m sitting at a cinema watching the next summer blockbuster.
This really sets the bar for movies from now on, especially in action, again these effects are wow. Its truly amazing to watch bullets hit cars with sparks coming of them, while at the same time, a guy gets shot in the back of the head and blood go’s everywhere. I could go on about the effects forever, but I can say these are the best effects I have seen with the game. Period
The cast did very well, great voice acting from them as always. Script was tight and serious I believe. I was about to give this movie 10/10 but the only thing that bother me was that the story was hard to figure out and it was 11 Mins long I felt was a little short and hope it was longer, it would have been a above all a masterpiece. Either than that, all action movie directors, watch this now and take a note, a big note!
9.4/10

«Could have been bloodier, but juicy all the same.»
«Stunning. This was a breathtaking production iwth thrills, spills and one hell of a music score!
Extremely well put together with some amazing camera-work. This movie makes me want to spit on all my old stuff and start over!! Well done!!
Howie.»
«Amazing. An outstanding demonstration of what can be achieved by boosting TM with some outside tools and rock solid talents.»
«I do not see how one could not love this film. Full of action, adrenaline, blood, gore, drama, excitement, and thrills. So much special effects, my eyes were moving in quick zig-zags to adore every aspect of each camera angle. Marvellous work and a definite favorite. Extremely well done!»
«I just rewatched it for the 10th time i believe it was. I love how you make every little detail count. Overall this movie is sexy, amazing, bloody, and action packed. You have great skills with adobe after effects. Film on
»
«Definately a winner man! Loved all the rack-focusing and special effects. I'm wondering how you did all that......damn all you final cut pro users!!!!!!
Few videos on this site I actually consider a film, but this just may count as one.!
Seriously awesome though. Make more action films like this one. 10/10»
«(Damn it I think I clicked 4 stars instead of 5, sorry)
This is an amazing film, what else can I say, the effects that have been used, blood, gun fire, reflections. Even lighting effects are brilliant.
Great Sound Design, camera angles that shows the brillance in your film making skills. Nice VO's as well.
This film also shows that outside editing is a viable choice for The Movies and can bring new life to movies made with it.
Strider Out!»
«The movie making community has shown what it is capable of.
In short, a machinima masterpiece!
The acting, music, cinematography, the editing, heck everything, was just amazing!
Well done all who took part! »
«AMAZING»
«Genuinely the best put together Movies film I've ever seen.
Everyone who wasn't involved in the production of this movie just got served.»
«Finally it's here! From the teaser I saw months (or was it years?) ago, I knew I was in for a treat. The effects were stupendous, both visually and aurally. I loved the surrealistic color schemes, the reflections on windows, the clouds of gunsmoke and richochet debris. The soft focus effects and depth of field changes were outstandingly novel on TMO as well. The opening and end credits were also unrivalled. Oh, and the music was brilliantly appropriate as well. There was just SO much to see. I think this will breathe new life into the movies--I'm waiting for the tutorial already

«What can I say. The direction, script, cinematography, acting, production, etc were all absolutely superb.
I can't think of anything else to say, I'm just staring at the screen with my mouth wide open.
Well done to everyone involved.»
«I also Love your Creation. I was Happy to see a Short film from you.
You are really a great film maker, please do make more films»
«Good Job on the audio re-fix»
«The new audiomix on this works brilliantly.»
«Uhh... ummm uhhh
Wow.
THAT is possible with TM? This is amazing! The boundaries of TM seem non existant now!
Just...
WOW...
*Drools a little*»
«This is not possible. That was not possible. That was bloody amazing! Seriously, that is the greatest movie ever made with TM. Film on!»
«Amazing looking movie sound fx made you feel like you were there everything was how a movie can be made with outside editing and sfx awesome job»
«Inspired. Thanks for an example of "it can been done"»
«100% Pure awesomeness!
Sound design was sublime. Editing flawless. Visual composition right on.
I like how you can still see the limitations of The Movies in certain areas, such as the editing trying to disguise the characters' exaggerated movements. I think it adds charm to the movie, keeping it from being a generic machinima piece.»
«Eyes bugged, mouth dropped and brain fried. Excellent effects, acting, editing and credits. The real heart of this film is the writing and cinematography. Simply oustanding from scene one. I am truly inspired,»
«Rich with coolness
»
«Finally, here it comes..
»
It's been a long long time but worth waiting
This is legendary movie, no doubt.
The action scenes smell like Michael Mann's Heat, freakin' awesome !!
Hope you and the team are going to work together again in near future, I want another superb movie and I want it..
now !!!
«This was incredible. The direction the script the performances, the music, the visuals and the closing credits were the best I've ever seen. Just blown away »
«It was pretty and bloody, just like I expected. Big thumbs up.»
«Well, what can I say that hasn't already been mentioned? Now if I could just perch on your shoulder and watch you at work I might be able to figure some of your editing magic out!»
«ohhhhwhhh and I thought it was gonna be a lovely litte l-love story *sniff*
Well, Michael & Jase, this is a lovely little dramatic piece of work. It really is. However, the problem I got is that the visual effects you show us here (which BTW is heaven by TMO-standards) is whats stands out the most, which causes damage to your story. And with that VD feels actually a lot like a tech demo. That is not a good thing, not even for an action movie.
It sounds ridiculous to say something negative about the film. After all I did indeed enjoy it. But maybe for the wrong reasons? Whats vital here is not really the film, more the fact that you show us whats possible to create with this game in terms of visual quality. And I take that with me. After all II do think its strange that not more of us have gone to more advanced programs while editing our movies to create this stunningly beautiful layer of quality
but fuck that. Great job Mb. And great job the cast»
«Visually Stunning
Which I think all the special efffects mask that there was no character development. I couldn't figure out which charcter I was supposed to relate to. The story was slightly confusing. I think parts of the script were taken out?
Still..one of the best films using TMO actors I have ever seen.
»
«Fantastic stuff... Wow!! Very very good!»
«I'm sure it's been said before, and will be said again and again. Visually breath taking! I'm pretty sure you must have traveled forward in time and stolen a copy of The Movies 2 (I can dream, anyway). How the hell did you do this?!?
).
(And it's probably why I missed my wife's VOs).
»
Voice acting was top notch, as you'd expect from the stellar cast (though I know my wife had lines in it, I never heard her... that's a personal thing, though
The story was OK, but as it's not my favorite genre, I can't complain about it. The dialogue made up for it, as it all fit well and sounded genuine.
If I had a complaint, it would be sound levels. A couple of times I had trouble hearing some lines as they got lost in either the music and/or sound effects. Still, that could be my hearing and not the movie at fault.
Overall: SPECTACULAR. Now make another, and don't take a year on it!!!!!
«iCandy. Well done, boys. Very, 'ow doo yoo sey: "butch". I eXpeshully liked the monologue in the middle: "..You stole from me, so I stole back..." LMAO. This one had more blood on the walls than an urban emergency room at peak time. »
«Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. This movie felt...real to me for a second, in that it [visually] blew my mind. The amount of work you put into this really reflects in the final product, and the five stars are well deserved. The writing was terrific, and I could not imagine the dialogue being any better. This is bound to be a classic. I look forward to seeing more from you both (that is, if you ever team up again).

«Run do not walk to see this one. Stunning, absolutely stunning...»
«It's great. It's very extraordinary. The end generic is cool.
very big work. excellent.»
«... It took time to choose words to explain what I just saw. It was something that has never seen, and might never be seen again on TMO/TMU. Visualy it was undoubtly a masterpiece, such visuals have never been seen on the community before. The directing, cinematagrophy and visual effects is just unexplainably great and makes even the most experienced movie maker to feel like an amature again. If there is something about the movie that I think could be better is that the story could have been a little more developed, making it a longer movie and have this as a final action sequence, but I respect Jase´s writing, and it is great writing indeed. Everything about this movie is just stunning, it´s a milestone in TM movie making.»
«Pretty kick-ass flick. Visually stunning and some to die for sound design. Acting was top-notch.»
«It's here, it's here, it's finally here! After an interminably long wait (and well worth every day of it), MichaelB6 brings it hardcore, showcasing a dazzling array of TMO talent from VA's to modders to musicians to Jase180 - in a class by himself for this kind of get-in-hit-em-hard-and-fast-and-get- out script... And how much do you love that outside editing? Does it not just make all the difference in the world? The most film-like film I've yet seen made with this software, and one that makes me positively drool over the possibilities for future films made this way. This is what a real "community" is capable of, and I love it. Outfreakingstanding. Proud to be a part of this one.»
«Nice and stylish... Just the kind of story to show off what can be accomplished with some outside editing... Now if you could get all the actors into a nice recording studio...
»
«Woah - that's just phenomenal film-making!»
«Fuck I'm an amateur!

Wow. I'm sure I'll have to watch this again and again and again to marvel at the visuals and effects, the voiceacting and the music...
This ilustrates why I think no other machinima program can rival what one can do with TM - if one is as great at outside editing as Michael.... which, admittedly, is a bar that won't be reached easily.... but one can dream.
Outstanding work, everyone involved. This was worth the long wait! »
«Can´t get any better than this with The Movies!
Beautiful artistic and stylish visuals, amazing voice actors (special nod to sparky, oscar deserving!), perfectly fitting atmospheric music and a great script.
Very impressiv!»
«Like a toast buttered with two sides of awesome , this film reeks of adrenaline and pisses attitude, if anyone wants to see what so great about outside editing , then look no further. Kudos to EVERYONE involved including Jase with coming up with a kickass script , Sparky with a dazzling perfromence , AND doing what he does best and EE with a amazing score i could go on forever . Brilliant. , let's hope there are more productions from you two in near-future»
«cool»
«Ho. Ly. Crap. Amazing on all fronts.»
«best.movie.ever.
Mb6, you know how I feel about you, and cant wait til we do it again soon.
My hope is you inspire many with this to reach further than they used to be able too.

«It's been a long, long....long time coming but "Valentine's Day" is finally here and we all get to marvel at just what one can do as a community effort! It pays off in spades and provides a smart, gritty and violent scenario that is both artistic and majestic!! the dialogue was sharp and cunning, which was well complimented by Michael_B6's cinematography!! All in all it was an enjoyable but brief experience that I will watch more than once! Well Done to ALL who were a part of this!!!!!»
«Oh wow, not much in plot, more than usual for a Barnes film, but it doesn't matter, another glorious and visually striking affair from the Michael Mann of the TMO community, well worth a long wait from your last small works, that'll keep me inspired for years to come, you really know how to push people to try and get anywhere near the quality you turn out, with great acting, a nice script, amazing music and brilliant cinematography amongst hundreds of other things, this is the best production fro TMO at all.»
«I'll withhold most comment until we hopefully have Michael and Jase on the show this Sunday, but I will say that this film shows what you can do with that little old The Movies game... »
«Greatly made. This was very entertaining and stylish. It was really made with incredible effort. If you want a 'proper' made movie, then this will be my recommendation. I really enjoyed the movie. It was very impressive and I look forward to seeing more movies from you, Michael!»
