Dr.Frankenstein Plastic Surgeon
An inventive cult comedy with many surprising and funny moments.
The story meandered away into nothing well before the end, but I was having too much fun watching this to care.
Q. What happens if the 50 foot woman gets drunk (luckily her booze bottle also was scaled up too; that must have contained several hundred gallons!) and throws up?
A. watch the film and laugh your socks off!
For a film which was about plastic surgery, this had surprisingly few gross-out moments (a couple of beheadings though!) - most of the zany humour was based on cultural references (Extreme Makeover, Batman and Dukes of Hazzard get a look-in), including to the old Frankenstein films. At times, it almost seemed like an updating of the story with the Doctor expressing regret for the monster he had unleashed (after hilariously bringing his patient back to life after seemingly killing her during surgery! ["It's alive!!"]) ...
Before then, we had explained to us what plastic surgery the main character, Lana, was to undergo - I refuse to spoil the joke, but it begins something like "She will have Angelina Jolie's lips, Jennifer Lopez's butt etc."
... later, we got the "Intermission" and an excellent faux trailer for a Bollywood version of Blaxploitation films ("Hadji Thunder". Funny, close-to-the-bone-if-you're-a-nazi-for-political-correctness, and superbly edited. This section for me was the best in the movie - not least because of its great 70s jazz-funk soundtrack reminiscent of films like "Shaft". The VO from the narrator for this section was terrific.
I also laughed at the "Technical problems" card - the filmmaker really tests our patience here as we are forced to listen to the entire "The Dating Game" theme tune with nothing happening on screen ... and then it starts again! A brave gag, but I think it works. (It's also insanely catchy! aaarrrgghh - can't get it out of my head).
Such a well put together film - visually very good indeed. My only minor gripe was with the sound levels of the dialogue. Dr Frankenstein's lines were consistently too loud compared to the other characters - but not to an extent where one's enjoyment of the film was spoiled to a large extent.
The acting for all characters was very good though; entertaining performances throughout.
This film should be getting 5-stars - but now to my one major gripe:
Quite a lot of the music wasn't credited properly, including my favourite piece, the opening to the Hadji Thunder section. Apparently, this track exists somewhere on sounddogs.com if the credits are to be believed. Not good enough for me, I want to know who made it so I can easily check out more of their work, it's great!. So I'm docking this film a star for that.
Otherwise, this is a very polished piece of work masquerading as a cheap low-budget B movie. Funny and well worth watching.»
«lol lots of great bits in this flick, from sexy-bits to super-puke projectiles, and Indie-flicks to monkey projectionists(lol that bit was perfectly done hahaha!)
I liked the pop-culture references(yes I'm sorry to admit I did actually watch The Dukes of Hazzard the first couple of seasons lol)
Sorry I hadn't seen this sooner...
A fun monster-mish-mash of goofy ideas.
I like the turban mod lol!:-D»
«I can only 3rd the call; we demand Hadji Thunder!!
(Surgeon General's Warning: This movie only gets more and more funny with repeated viewing... could be hazardous to your abdominal regions... you have been warned... PS make sure your bladder is empty before watching...)»
«Ha - that was sheer excellence! I like how the intro to the International hit 'You Can Dance If You Want To' by Canada's Men Without Hats was on a loop in the Dr's waiting room. And good to see a complimentary copy of High Times in the recovery room, too. Ha - the Bollywood Blaxploitation Intermission is brilliant! I really want to see 'Hadji Thunder'»
«That was fuckingfantastic. "more air than a kite in a windstorm" and I almost choked on my coffee...That was just better than funny, that was Hi-lari-ious and original.
