«sad tale well done»
«This movie drew me in right at the start with the excellent opening sequence. It's easy to see some parallels with Blade Runner, but this story is highly original with elegant and detailed visuals.
I loved the detail paid to the audio, the constant traffic noises that can be heard from within the apartment for example. It contributed to a feeling that everyone else is getting on with their lives while Sol struggles with his increasing isolation.
This movie is a masterpiece!»
Visually stunning and breath taking. Magnificently directed. Really well written and performed brilliantly. Great sound in the film with good music as well. A real powerful film. I think everyone has said it all...leaving me speechless...
Simply brilliant. Great job Lizard! Definitely one to watch again. Top stuff! Bravo!»
«Now I seened movies that impressed me so far, but this has impressed me MORE! The best movie I seen so far for 2009. Tmuers, get some popcorn and watch this, one of the best movies I've seen. 1000 out of 1000 stars. If this was on my 50 inch TV in my living room, I would definitely get a vote on this. Great job. Must have been hard work making this. Just... WOW!»
«This film brought tears to my eyes. Just to imagine how someone would feel without the love of their life just saddened me. Putting myself in his place made me connect with the characters more deeply and showed me how powerful this film was. The visuals were quite exciting with all of the futuristic mods and outstanding camera angles. Amazing job, Lizard, amazing job.»
«Its very rare that a machinima film has me calling up friends saying "you gotta check this movie out man!"
Visually beautiful. The fly in was epic and had my jaw dropped, but the way you visually told the story with emotional camera movements and meaningful angles is really the visual excellence of the film for me. Heartfelt performances that made it very easy to identify with the characters. The music was very noticable and perfectly melted into the film.
Dark, tragic and haunting, with an amazing ending that had me smiling throughout writing these comments.
Truly truly a film I will never forget. Bravo my friend!
A much cleverer story than it initially seems [no way am I going to spoil this ending!] - a man flies home from work every day to his apartment in a 24th century, Blade Runner-style, hellhole of a city. There he spends his time drinking and watching re-runs of old machinima classics as he tries to dull the pain of losing the love of his life who left him without explanation.
That's about as much of the plot as you need to know at this stage, the film is all about atmosphere. And as in Ridley Scott's classic film, it succeeds massively.
The fly-through as he drives through the city is immersive, including his cursing at the odd bad driver while his music player plays VERY old songs from the mid-20th century. At home, the atmosphere is maintained by changes of lighting on the wall representing passing vehicles outside the window, and some very good choices of angles (loved the mirror shot). The cinematography here is exceptional.
For a long while, I found the character animation to be too wooden and deliberate - but, like me, I doubt many would complain about that by the time the end credits roll ...
At times, it seems to borrow too heavily from Blade Runner (including my favourite scene, the noodle bar) - but I was really too immersed in the environment to care about the similarity. It is different enough to be its own world - for instance, there's no park and trees in Blade Runner, where one of the best sequences here is played out.
Very good visual effects throughout and excellent use of music, some of it original - but the old songs also added to the atmosphere significantly. The set design is brilliant - not just the architecture but the attention to detail in terms of what items exist in this character's home.
No problems with the acting either - not only was it performed well, but the levels were perfect, as were the effects applied to radio and TV voices.
Watching "Coming Home" is (for the third time) an immersive experience.
Whether it is the best iClone film yet made is hard to tell, as I haven't seen any other proper iClone movies yet - but it must be up there, because it's right up there with the best films I've seen using any software.
A futuristic vision - beautifully and brilliantly realised.»
«This was breathtaking in every way my friend. i cant begin to tell you how moving and near perfect this film is. Outstanding direction, writing and cinematography with a solid set of VO leads and some nice easter eggs make this a fantastic story to just sit and enjoy..with a twist that brings it all together.
Very well done my friend, and a true work of art. I am more than impressed...
«Now that was a terrific piece of machinima! Loved the music as it all fit perfectly. Some of it even had a Jarre feel to it. The visuals were STUNNING to say the least. Your attention to detail is amazing. And the story was just brilliant. I certainly didn't see the ending coming!
Loved the little tributes to the community throughout the film. A nice touch. (Particularly 'Saving Grace'.)
Superb work, Lizard. THANK YOU!»
«This was fantastic Liz!
I haven't written a review for a machinima film in I don't know how long now But this one is forcing me to write one. The movie was beautiful, from the dialogue to the score to the visuals. Everything seemed to be top-notch.
The dialogue kept me interested the entire time, and there was just enough suspense in the plot to make me want to keep on watching and curious as to how the story would end. The voice-acting itself was also superb!
The visuals were also great, and the special effects used were nearly to perfection. The only flaw I saw though came in the visuals, and that was some of the shots. Some of the sweeping shots seemed a little to slow, and I'm not sure if that's something that isn't completely editable or not. Other than that minor flaw, the film looked great!
Lastly I want to compliment you on the score, as it was as amazing as I thought it would be and then some! The original scores you composed were all perfect for the story and blended well with the dialogue. Even the additional country tunes were a pleasing addition.
All-in-all, it was a 9.5/10 production in my eyes! I was awed by your ability once again Liz!
«Well, it's no Lift Chronicles.....
Yeah, yeah, yeah....you know I've been waiting on this since you sent me the opening sequence months ago. From first frame to last, it's outstanding work - you set a mood and you let that mood carry the story and the audience right to the end.
I will warn you, though - next time I watch one of your movies, I'm wearing a cup »
«Well, bugger me!
I can't heap enough superlatives on this, so I won't even try!
Sooooo many fantastic details in this, from the pitch perfect performances, to the pacing, the lighting, the camera, the scripting...
Truly exceptional piece here, mate. You should be proud of what you've accomplished!»
«Great work Lizard! Im usually not a big fan of the style of iclone but you really made this look beautiful! Your cinematography is what really shinned to me, your camera work was absolutely beautiful. Not to mention the writing was very well complimented by the voice acting!
«Powerful, Evocative and Beautiful are the three words that spring to mind on this achievement. For me however, It's the little things that counted. The mixture of wide and close-ups were meshed so well together and the overall tone was highly atmospheric. Congratulations on delivering a classic and showing us just what iClone can do!
«Powerfull and strangely not to depressing ending (reminded me oddly of the end of the Shining..must be that echoey Patsy). Awsome sets, great music, outstanding cinamatography. Loved the story, loved the mood. A benchmark and hopefully a sign of more great things to come. I did find the global domination of tmu/tmoa a bit vexing. I guess Ken isnt quite done building up his empire huh.»
«Whoa. What a film! The atmosphere you created, the story, the stunning visuals, the soundscape, the vo's, the music - just wow!
I'm so impressed with all the little details, I just hope you'll upload the film somewhere in highest quality - I want this movie on my HD to watch it again and again.
«Call it whatever you want, just don't call it a comeback.
Ever since the Lift Chronicles I have respected you as a filmmaker and a voice actor, Lizard; way before we became friends; and as many will be able to tell once they've seen this film, it is a respect well earned and deserved.
While I still hold my reserves for Iclone, what you've done with this project is undeniable. You scored the trifecta, as it is beautifully filmed, scored, and voice-acted. The visuals were truly awe-inspiring; the park scene in particular. I knew you'd rekindle your film-making flame.
Consider this an instant classic.
