«Interesting short, well made. Terrific score.
There were times when the Voice track was just a little bit muffled, and hard to understand, but not overly so. The harsh filter used conveyed a sense of hopelessness which was very effective.
«Interesting short, well made. Terrific score.
«Didn't realize you were back and making films again or I would have been over sooner. Love the mix of close ups of the soldier and ambience shots in this. Colors and spareness of the movie work really well. I did think the music was well suited to the movie. It would have been less without it. The ending was a bit abrupt. I would have liked to see more, but perhaps as a short that's the point.»
«Everyone of course is entitled to their own opinion. I think some reviewers have gotten too bogged down in trying to figure out the story than to appreciate this film for what it is. I like this experimental kind of thing. Sometimes, to make the backstory ambiguous, you agitate the viewer's mind, and allow them to conviece their own perspective, and deliver unique interpretations of the past, present and future of the events of the film.
I really enjoyed the overall mystery of the story. It made me think, as opposed to just being drip-fed the facts, and I think that's what real films need. The movie adds to this with the eerie visuals, which essentially is what this is all about. I loved the desolate expanse of the opening scene with the almost monochromatic green composition, then the dark, claustrophobic tunnels during the talking scenes, then the huge contrast with the vibrant lush of the garden at the end.
I liked the voice acting too. You really captured the emotion of Frank the soldier, so hats off again to you for that. I'm not too good at finishing a review, so overall a really nice film, five stars, and all that »
«Macwenyss, do not apologize for the time I spent watching your movie. I love watching new movies, I accept the risk of not appreciating. You say that you've enjoyed making this film and I believe you.
The film is also not completely bad. As some people have said, the voice acting is good and there is a good atmosphere. Unfortunately this is not enough for me.»
«I'm so glad you're back. Some awesome visuals here. The way you were able to play around with the lighting is incredibly impressive, considering how hard it is to achieve this look with the TM machine. Yeah, there isn't much of a story, but as a visual mood piece it works wonders. Here's to some more projects down the line!»
«Ok, well, I have to say I agree with both Macwemyss and TheReviewer (who is not the only one to leave a "negative" review)... but everyone has had his bad reviews heh... so About this movie, It was very ambient, and absorbing, and I was going totally into it when... plaf...! And then nothing. "You have a choice" and then bing. Hop. The end. Frustrating but mostly, as a viewer, you don't know what where how why who...? Apart from that, great visuals, voice acting (gotta love the Scottish accent!)... and great music! »
«Lol, thanks for your input TheReviewer
Just thought I'd mention I never said I spent a lot of time on it. I didn't. In fact I only spent a couple of months on and off and that was mostly messing with the visuals, sound and writing/recording the music. (Btw the mods may have come from Fallout but the visual editing/colour correction was all my own work) I wrote the script in about half an hour - that was never the real focus of the piece as it's not a serious movie for me, just something simple to help get me back in the swing of things since I've been away for so long.
I appreciate your feedback though, and maybe I should've treated it a little more seriously, since clearly we're all professionals here. But I had fun making it, and most other people seemed to enjoy it so I don't think I wasted my time. Judging by your response though I guess I wasted yours, so for that I apologise. Anyway, have fun on the site and I'm sure you'll find some other films that are more up to your standards
To everyone though, thanks for the great comments. It's been awesome to get back into making movies and the fact that some people enjoyed my movie is a bonus for me. Also the fact that I'm getting such detailed opinions from one or two people makes me want to try harder for next time, so thank you »
«The story is not really original (the Apocalypse, the solo traveler). The script is poor. Nothing happens. The two characters are uninteresting and do nothing but talk. About sets, you used all those you found in Fallout 3, which explains that the image is not too bad.
You say you spent a lot of time on this project. I think you wasted your time or you've spent doing something else.»
