«incredible just got watching this »
«This is a masterpiece on so many levels. Just name an aspect of movie-making then add awesome ahead of it, and you got a pretty good description of this movie. I mean, the plot, the camerawork, the voice-acting, the soundtrack, everything is just superb. Normally I cannot sit through an over 20 min machinia films but this movie has me glued to the computer screen for all 70 phenomenal minutes of it. 50 stars.»
This film is a masterpiece bar none. Well deserved of its myriad of accolades and many Ollie nominations. It moved me more than you can imagine Nukester. Thank you for making this heartfelt and wonderful film and thank you to all the actors who gave deeply felt and heart wrenching performances. This is indeed a very personal film to me and yet universal in its appeal. That is what makes good storytelling. And the music! Joy and Bravo on that score, and what a score! I just loved that it was a dramatic musical but even more than that it was great music, Broadway caliber stuff here that rocked the house.
Nukester you touched me with your talent and guts. You and your wonderful cast made me feel so wonderful, sad, and full of joy with this great moment in movie making. “Temporary Night” is my favorite film, period.
I've watched this twice now and I'll be brutually honest. It's too long. I really liked Horror of the Werewolf, I really liked I and I really liked Fire and Forget 3. It's quite a good movie but it's not up to the quality of your other films. To me, this film seems unfinished.
In my opinion, you could cut out a good 40 mins and just told the story. I mean, this film to me is like a film about a nightclub and a film that's showing off to the point of being a tech-demo. I mean, yes, it looks very clever but this film's too long. Plus the ending is quite flat, you stole the dialogue completly from an ending monologue of an episode from a TV show I've seen. I was quite shocked by that, Nukester being un-original, come to think of it! WOW! The acting was really good and the direction was hit and miss really. This film was like a light switch for me, it went on, then off [quite a lot]. I was more interested in the story, which I still think you could have condensed.
It was quite an average piece, as it stands. I would have enjoyed it more if you had cut down a lot more of the story and taken out a lot of the tech-demo stuff which I personally didn't enjoy. It was boring. I don't see why a film about a nightclub has to sorely have lots of scenes showing off as I put it and detracting from the story so much it feels like I'm watching a different film all together. It's quite dissapointing.
Your other films were the right length, I was 50 mins but it was the right length.
Infact, come to think of it, if you had cut this film into a two-parter like I I may looked it's length. However, it's just too long. I'm not the only one who feels this way so I know some feel the same way. I won't name names but I've talked to them about this film and they completly agreed with everything I'm saying in this review. Not to sound harsh now but in my opinion you've realised how great you are, how great you've shown us you can be and then all of a sudden, you work on a film for 2 years and forget what made you great in the first place. I'm quite put off seeing your future projects unless they're not as long as this was and it was really way too long! I just feel you've lost your mojo, the last 3 features you've realised have all been distinctly average. The Temporary prequel short, didn't really show anything, nothing wow. The Moviestorm short, which was allright. It didn't do anything amazing as your previous works have shown. Then, we have this film.
I rest my case.
At the end of the day we're all entitled to an opinion and for me, this was over-hyped, over-modded, over-long and just could have been a lot better. Average film overall.»
«I feel stupid. I have watched this movie a lot of times but have not yet wrote a comment, and that's not cool. However, this movie is very cool. I don't know exactly what I like about it, but you're obviously doing something right. Nukester happens to be one of my favortie filmmakers on this website,(mostly because of this movie). In conclusion, well... I like it a lot.
«I had completely missed this one. I loved it. To be very honest, I usually have great difficulty watching machinima much longer than 20 min., but this one was an exception. Great characterization, and every character has his/her moments. I wasn't completely sure why the wedding element was necessary for Sisch's character, and hoped we had had a little bit more of foreshadowing about her problem as well. But then, it might be that I just missed these things. I loved the way the title, the club's situation, and the main character's condition were tied all together. (In a way, I almost wanted to see the club closing down.
Excellent work, Nukester. All the Ollie's nomination well deserved. very very well deserved indeed! »
«At long last I've finally managed to spare the time to give this film the attention it deserves. What an absolute treat it is. From start to finish this is one of the most watchable pieces of machinima I have ever seen. A totally captivating experience.
The acting, camerawork, cinematography, screenplay, soundtrack, everything fits together so well.
I can't praise the hard work that has gone into this movie highly enough. This is certainly no throwaway piece that was thrown together in an afternoon. The attention to detail is mindblowing.
If I have one criticism it's that some of the voices seem a bit low in the mix and are difficult to hear. This is only a minor thing and doesn't detract from the film as a whole.
Truly, an outstanding piece of work and an absolute classic.»
«Really well crafted. Powerful, magnificent, jaw dropping! First off, a great cast that did a splendid job. Really well scripted with nice dialogue. Great characterization in the film.
Great music throughout - Kudos to you for writing and composing. Nice camerawork and editing. A great touch, just great editing at its finest. Brilliant set design and neat visuals in the film as well.
Overall, a brilliant job Nukester. A magnificent breath taking film. Nice job!»
"Neon City" - is it a town? Or a popular slang for one of its districts?
Whatever it is, it is the backdrop to countless stories of romance, infidelity, loneliness, crime and the sticky atmosphere that only nighttime can bring.
Those optimistically expecting 70 minutes of entertainment can forget it ... this is 70 minutes of UNFORGETTABLE entertainment!
With its stylish mix of homegrown music (only a couple of off-key and off-tempo vocal moments in a few of this film's many songs betray its homegrowness; the grooves are all of an awesome professional standard), well drawn characters and a sense of a place in which it is eternally night (barring one daytime scene that had me shielding my eyes with my cape and climbing back into my coffin), this is something that everyone should see.
Most of the action is centered around the activities of those working at, or attending, the "Temporary Night" night club. So temporary that its proprietor has been lying to the strongarms and co-owners about how badly in debt it is.
Our main route into the story is through one of its female dancers who serves as narrator both spoken and, at times, sung. She does her dancing spot every night before reverting to waitress duty (a superbly realised waitress sequence is one of the highlights of the early part of the film for any connoiseur of "The Movies".
There then follows some strange cuts to completely different characters (a hospital surgeon attempting life-saving surgery suddenly occurs out of the blue, for example) - we know that they'll figure somewhere later on, and the genius of this film is that we always have a puzzle in our minds as we watch it - "who's this? what does that have to do with anything!? I must watch to find out ...". If there are any lulls, we've got something exciting to occupy our minds.
Sumptuous. That's the word I'm looking for.
This is like "American Graffiti" - the film I have now grown to accept as George Lucas's best. One night with a bunch of 50s teens getting up to mischief, several stories, and a cuttable-with-a-knife nocturnal atmosphere. There's that kind of timeless feeling in this film too that only nighttime can bring.
I'll not spoil anything - but stick around, this film has a few surprises up its sleeves well worth waiting for.
Very good acting performances throughout and some laughs too in the first half. This is the first ever "The Movies" film where I have seen a gesture used in a sarcastic manner. For example, a character breaks down in tears - but she's just being sarcastic! (like - "boo-hoo, you hurt my feelings .. [not]"
This level of imagination from the director is more than continued in the way he deals with other scenes. I loved the hood scene where the new dancer "Roxy" decides to turn spy. There is no animation for a character to put up a hood in The Movies - so what does this director do?
Answer: He cuts away to her friend talking, and we hear some coat shuffling, then it's back to Roxy now wearing her hood. So simple. And the conversation goes on - an elegant solution befitting the rest of what is offered in this film.
Look out for Roger & Ken's brief cameo on a car radio! It got switched over very quickly (the character who does it is obviously not a fan of TMOA; let your ears blink and you'll miss it).
Pacing was superb - even when a seemingly completely unnecessary music video interrupted the story, it used terrific animated characters! (or ... real-life characters to us, but amazingly well animated to the inhabitants of Neon City!) - it added to the atmosphere of the film.
To sustain this level of interest throughout 70 minutes is an achievement that many professional TV or film producers would do well to learn from.
The music was great - the grooves papered over any dodginess in the singing, much as in many of my favourite songs. The music video elements were very imaginative and glorious to look at.
A classic machinima film - clearly one person's vision fully realised.
Sure, it has its share of soap opera cliches (slam door - "that's right! run away like you always do!" but despite any minor flaws it may have, this is simply a beautiful piece of work mainly down to its irresistible late-night atmosphere.
Somehow, I doubt this night is temporary at all.»
«Where does it lead to, indeed?
This is an amazing movie Nuke. It's obvious that a lot of work went into all aspects of this film. The visual effects were just awesome with blended TM, Live Action, and other animated content.
I never quite figured out where the story was going and the little plot twists thrown in along the way were kept me from doing so right until the end of the movie. I know this review is a bit beyond the release date but I still don't want to say too much for fear of revealing a spoiler.
I downloaded this and watched it in glorious HD and would heartily recommend to others that it be watched in this manner.
«INCREDIBLE! I have no other word...That's maybe almost 2 years that you announce that you were working on this movie, and we can saw it on screens.
Everything was so perfect and I can tell you that I'd really loved your choice of music. You are really talented in movie making and music making.
I really just finishing watching it, and I'm still under the charm...words are missing to tell how marvellous it was.
I need to download this movie!
Thanks for this great moment.»
«I give you a warm round of applause, Nukester. Wow, that was truly awe-inspiring. I didn't know if I should feel excited or jealous toward your masterful work of art you have shown us here. I can honestly say that is the single greatest movie I have seen so far made with The Movies. Amazing camera angles, brilliant voice acting, crafty scene selection, wonderful visuals, and an interesting soundtrack wrapped up in a christmas present for the TMU community to unravel, enjoy, and remember for a very, very long time. Incredible movie, Nuke, a definite favorite and five extremely well-deserved stars!»
«And I thought I spent a ton of time on my own latest project... This is truly a masterpiece, Nukester. Every frame is so lovingly crafted, every shot a piece of art. The characters are all SO wonderfully and fully developed, I really feel like they are actual people, who I truly feel for and worry about as the drama unfolded. The music was professional as well--and all done by you? Gads, you're a god. There are so many delightful details throughout, I can't possibly list them all here, but I will mention that I loved Ken & Roger's cameo "appearance". It's dedication like this which separate the typical TMO/U productions from the extraordinary, and this is one extraordinary production indeed.»
«This is probably the greatest credits sequence ever created in a movies game machinima. Everything is eye candy and the attention to detail is just outstanding.
I especially liked the stop motion transitions with the bar furniture later in the film, that must have took forever.»
«Good to see you've still got it Nukester
I do have to say though, that the genre "musical/rom-drama" is not really my favourite, but still: The very quality of your movie made me entertained enough to watch the whole movie in it's entirety. If it's one word, besides quality, I would use to describe your movies, it would be: diversity. Action, drama, whatever, you can do it all, and you do it well! So thumbs up to you! »
«This was beautiful. Thoroughly engrossing but i want to see more. I can see why it took you so long to make this because the perfection really shows. Well written story, excellent camera work, excellent actors and the music was outstanding. This is so good and I hope you consider sending this to film festivals and submitting for TV.»
«Nukey nukey nukey!
I can only second what everyone else already said. WHat an epic! For sure the most professional produced film made based on TM. You made me forget the game limitations, I think it´s the first TM film ever with not one scene in which I thought that you were limited. The set design of cause was great especially the background with the green windows and the bar, just lovly. Great cam use. The 3 things that stick out the most in my oppinion are the music, the voice actors and the script. Wonderfull voice actors just magnicifent not one bad line in there from so many cast members I don´t know how you did that and don´t wanna know how much effort you/them put into this. Don´t need to talk much about the music, just amazing and all selfmade, respect! AAAnd the script, so much depth in so many characters, wow, just wow, not to forget the plot itself which is good as well. =)
So many effort, such a long waiting time, but all worth it. What an epic!»
«Words cannot even describe accurately how much effort you put into this film. This is threefold better than Interstellar Galaxy- especially on a technical level. I'm sorry if this review isn't much of a filler on my opinion of this film, but I think it would be a disservice to this film by not claiming that my words would be a simple understatement of this film's beauty. A 5...out of 5. This seems like a serious candidate for TMU film of the year!»
«Excellence , Just excellent , i simply marvel at you Nuke , This had everything from the fantastic voice overs , to the camera work and editing , Fantastic , majestic and moving 69 Minutes ? the time flew by , i actually wanted more , a result of masterful film-making.
As i said , the technical aspects of this film , top any film that i have seen so far , the attention to the finest detail is scary but very much appreciated , everyone fitted there role perfectly. Take it now your off on a break now Andy? your deserve it. »
«INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!! One of the most greatest movies on TMU. Everyone is seeing this, and if this was in the cinema real life, I would definitely get a ticket and watch this with my mates. Incredible, Nukester, great cast, great music, props, camerawork, this is an example on what a real movie is all about. Great job, looking forward to your next project. 500 out of 500.»
«What a fantastic achievement. A long time in the making, and worth the wait.
Great writing; a really involving storyline, and great characters combining some fine Starmaker work and top quality voice acting.
The strongest performance of all is of course the music; you've been busy! It creates the entire identity of the film.
It should also be commented that this is a very strong film technically; good mods, effects and transitions. I agree with the comment that the voice acting was occasionally a little off balance on two sides of a conversation but, without having the VA's in the same room using identical equipment, I can imagine what a huge technical challenge that is. In any case, 95% of the time the sound quality was excellent.
Overall, an elegant, deep and beautiful creation. I have to say, releasing this on Valentine's Day is clever move.
So, what's your next project?»
«Now to give this a review worthy of such an epic and stunning production... or given my review quality I'll attempt to.
This is probably the most ambitious and well constructed production ever made with the movies. The cinematography was superb, with excellent choices in camera angles and lighting effects are some of the visual hallmarks to the production.
The music videos that are interspersed throughout the whole movie are something beyond what I thought would appear. Timed t perfection against the awesome vocalisations and music tracks.
One of the biggest things in this production have to be the characters, brilliantly voiced by the cast, who bring out some of the best performances ever to grace TMO or TMU. The Characters I can simply say that they have lives, jobs, issues etc that really add depth to them and the story.
I loved the story is so well constructed I was hooked, visuals drew me here the plot has kept me here. Just brilliant is as good as I can sum it up.
All in all, your best production possibly even the best to be made with The Movies.
69 minutes worth spent, congratulations and respect must be given to yourself and everybody involved.
«Lordy, lordy, lordy... what can I say that hasn't already been said?
Practically perfect in every way; another classic (if there's any justice in the world), showing what dedication and experience with using TM can produce in the hands of a talented director. The time and care taken to put this together shows in every scene and every piece of music throughout.
Absolutely top drawer performances, sumptuous visuals that wouldn't be out of place in a big screen movie, fantastic music design and scoring... I could go on and on, pouring praise on this, but suffice it to say this one has set a new standard for TM movies!
Enjoy the accolades on this one, matey; you have definately earned them!»
«GO SEE SITTING ON...... ahem, marvelous work Nukester!
I had no idea how long it was but when I found out it only made me more anxious as I knew I was in for a treat. Your ability to utilize the program is amazing, at times i felt like I were really watching a live action film just by the way you used the camera and your execution.
Before I forget I must say the Music was absolutely incredible, it simply serenaded me at points, you've really shown your versatility in the arts.
I also loved the way you ended it, yes it was sad but not to the full extent where everyone dies or something to that nonsense like in most films, it's tragic and yet it's not tragic. Basically it's real, it feels real.
I don't think I have to mention the great acting performances throughout the film, absolutely great work, it's almost enough to make one... jealous ....:p
Outstanding work Nukester, once again, now for the 2 hr film!»
«WOW! Instant classic Nukes. Very nicely scored, produced, edited and scripted. You took a chance at a picture this long and it really paid off. Sisch is gorgeous isnt she? Really cool stuff with the radio changing bit, and like everyone else I cant say enough about the soundtrack. Everything about this piece was cool. Nice cast and appearances by Riott and Goofparade is always welcome in my book. The lighting seemed otherworldly and created an ambiance not easily created. The entire film had a great feel to it from the music in the "other room" to the floor where it really kicks yer teeth in. Be proud of this one Nukester it was worth the wait dude.»
«Funny, the exact same thing happened to me last week... OK, maybe not.
First off, a small criticism (and it's the only one) - the VO levels were a bit off. Noted by me and especially by a certain voice actress sitting beside me at the time. It's minor, but it was noticeable. Considering the attention to detail in this film, it was surprising.
OK, on to the praise (and there is plenty!) Where to hell does one start? I know! The music. Bloody brilliant. Music, singing, you name it. Just outstanding.
The look of this film is simply to die for. Set dressing, custom props and background, all those lovely transitions. Fantastic.
The acting by all was brilliant. Quite often with a movie of this size (cast-wise), you'll get the odd flat performance. Not ONE in this. Everyone was brilliant.
Sound design. Words don't described how impressed I was. Stereo, fading, echoes, etc... just perfection.
Story... complex, involving, emotive... etc etc. Extremely well written, extremely well executed.
And did I mention the music? lol Why yes I did, but it was so good it deserves one more comment: Was this the world's longest music video or what? hehe. Actually, that worked in its favour. For a stupendously long machinima flick like this, you needed to have those little "diversions" to maintain interest (OK, the story could do that alone, but the music really glued it all together).
My last comment... the ending felt like a pause in the story, not a true end. It's like you were about to say "Stay tuned for Part Two". I know it's not about to happen, but man, with a brilliant film like this, can you blame me for wanting more?
Oh, and I loved K&R's appearance. Funny touch.
Nukester, you are THE MAN!»
«Nukester....... we waited and waited for Temp Nights... and BAM!!!!! Finally it emerges and the brilliance of it makes us slap on sunglasses. The hynotic rythems lures us to our doom and delight. Genius is written across every frame.
Riott007 rocks as Roxy!!! omg!
Vocals are overwhelming.
This is wayyyyyyyy beyond Nuketastic!
«A truly masterful piece of cinema - flawless in its production, outstanding in casting and the performances, from the largest role to the small, a complex and multi-faceted story full of characters that make you care about them, and a soundtrack to die for.
As you probably know, this isn't normally my kind of movie - but it's strengths transcend genre, and I was nailed to the screen, from the opening seconds to the final credit.
Masterpiece. That's all I can say.»
«Nukey, I'm lost for words....
love it. I knew the script, knew what was happening; even though I had tears in my eyes in the end. What a beautiful, beautiful film - everything fits. The actors, the city you created - is this TM anymore? - this film transcends it all, and I'm so damned proud to be part of it, that you cast me for this role. Thank you!!
You know already how much I loved working on the songs with you - and I hope we'll do many more together!
Technical, it's flawless - and I just love how you integrated real life footage for the music videos, all the little details....
Wonderful, just wonderful all around. Be very proud - this is a masterpiece!»
«WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS...
Well I came to sit down in my armchair, expecting something fantastic, instead what I got was something more, a mesmorising feat of machinama movie making which is the BEST, The Movies made film that I have ever seen, and to see how far this concept has come over the two years that it has been in production is simply breathtaking...
Anyway, what can I say about this, it was just wonderful, of all we should be paying to see this, and if the GAGAs are going ahead this year, this will be up for several nominations, I'm sure and I definatley think it will claim a Best Picture award if it got nominated, but to whatever movie award ceremony is held within our community, this deserves alot of awards...
The script was crafted excellently and ran smoothly throughout, it was just so well written and it felt like a real life event, and what an emotional ending, watching all these characters in their downfall, especially Sisch's character, Naomi...that definatley brought a tear to my eye, along with Kenkaku's character Sean...Mefune you slimy bastard!!!
It was a well put together cast which was just excellent, every voice actor fitted their role perfectly.»
«and as for one of the main points of the movie: The Music!...it was just brilliant, this is what makes the movie so special, I liked the parts where we would just go into a music video and watch some really great artistic images...
and I liked the city you created in the movie, Neon City, a jazzy low city, which comes to life at night, that's the impression I got from watching superb shots of the cityscape.
The set-dressing in the movie is another thing to point out, I liked it alot and added more realism to the sets and the animations within the movies were well put together to fit the movie, especially seeing as The Movies is a hard program to work around.
Overall this is a fine piece of Cinema which is one of my favourite movies that I have seen on TMUnderground...all them 2 years were well spent and this movie definatley earns it's place in my movie vault.
Sublime cast, highlighting Sisch mostly for her moving performance, wonderfully composed music by you Nukester and wonderful artistic imagery...
A Modern Masterpiece of TMUnderground that should be admired by all!
***** - 5 STARS!
Thanks for this movie and on behalf of Valentino Pictures, I congratulate you Nukey!
«Captivating from the minute I hit play. I'll be honest - I saw a runtime of 69 minutes and gulped...hoping for the best but not sure what to expect. This is refreshing, stunning, moving, and absolutely beautiful. Unique, mesmerizing, and the time flew by - these were 69 minutes of my time well spent, and I plan on revisiting this movie again and again.
On the technical aspect of things the sound editing was simply divine. From your music, to the sound effects, to the ambiance...wow. There was one scene where all three girls walked past the camera and each had a distinct sounding walk - such detail work on your part!
You cast these parts perfectly, as each person brought their own special flavor to the characters.
Did I mention I loved this movie? »
