«I've finally seen all 16 parts, and they are all great. There is no need to get in details about continuity and such because the games does limit some of your abilities. I was a great series and all the stories flowed. »
Batman Superman and Spiderman The Movie Part 16 and Credits
«I watched all 16 parts. The movie as a whole was pretty impressive. I was really into the story. The dialogue was great, and all the personalities matched, especially with Joker. I'd point out the errors I saw, but JazzX already did it for me.
Overall, great movie. 5 stars.»
Some glaring lighting continuity errors, a view of the side of the set and an all too conveniently placed bunch of cardboard boxes harmed this episode (Spiderman only had to shoot a web for a more "realistic" outcome).
But - a great climax with the intercutting between each superhero's fight. I also liked how Harley Quinn stood by reading a newspaper while this epic battle was going on!
I also liked the way the story was tied up at the end - I'll take fondly away from this series the idea of Spiderman and Batman being like a bickering old couple (in this case Spiderman accuses Wayne of not knowing how to fly his own helicopter).
So - after 2 hours of being thoroughly entertained - it remains for me to give my verdict on the entire project.
This is a colossal achievement - to consistently entertain for 2 hours is something that is extremely difficult to achieve. There were a couple of sub-par episodes, but name me any long series - whether on TV or celluloid - that doesn't have those.
I can say for a fact that, if "The Dark Knight" had been split up into 16 parts, there would be more misses among the hits than in this series.
I'll start with the bad points about the series -
Mumbling - turn it off! There's a reason we don't use The Sims to make our films on this web site!
VO - not really a bad point at all, but this excellent series would have benefitted immensely from some good voice overs (they must be good though, otherwise it's best to stick to subtitles).
Continuity - especially in the latter episodes, there were scenes where the lighting went from night to day and back again. This is always to be avoided.
Framing - at times, the edge of the set and girders were visible. The worst example was when an upward shot shows the "space station" travelling and the girders alongside.
Music - the latter episodes were good, but some of the earlier ones had great events taking place without a single note!
Deus Ex Machine - all-too-convenient get-outs and Hollywood coincidences in key moments. (the cardboard boxes)
And now the good points:
Story - excellent, it wavered in episode 13 but it was a fun ride all the way with some surprising twists.
Characterisation - the Joker got the best lines, but Spiderman and Batman's banter was great - and there were many unpredictable surprises in the dialogue throughout the 2 hours which were often very amusing. I liked Harley Quinn as well - she didn't do that much, but she was very theatrical in her gestures.
Pacing - outstanding. There was rarely a dull moment in the 2 hours (in "The Dark Knight", I found myself yawning a couple of times! I'm not easily pleased )
Camerawork - when required, there was some excellent work with the camera. I really liked the first-person perspective from the defeated robot in the last episode, for example.
Editing - very sharp editing of the action scenes. The final showdown was intercut superbly. It kind of ties in with pacing - this is a filmmaker who knows how long each shot should take and how to logically proceed to the next shot. The Joker's throwing of a playing card onto the bar was a perfect example. ("another stunning entrance by The Joker" - lol)
Costumes - superb, I'll also add that the stars were made very well too.
Mods/FX - the sets, vehicles and effects were very good - I particularly liked Wayne Manor and some of the bar sets.
Credits - all musicians were credited for their work in the series, and by track as well. There were also humorous names among the "cast" - I liked how Kirsten Duncst (sic) played both Mary Jane and Harley Quinn (Gosh! Are they the same?!)!
A very entertaining 2 hours of superhero skullduggery overall! Consistently entertaining and often funny.»
