«I dig the music. A lot! And the slow camera movements are great. I wish it had been just one single camera shot, though (which is probably a complaint of the software than of you). But overall, I really liked this. Nicely done, Ben.»
«While it is always pleasing to see excellent technical uses of animation, and to take some time out to ponder the imponderables through art in motion, this pulls up short - I feel - on delivering the desired effect... apart from displaying some nice use of props and sets. The development of atmosphere is great, but it leads to little else. However, here is the very suspenseful beginning to an interesting looking story.»
«Again, great art in video form. I feel as if I’m watching an animated canvas. Your movies always inspire me to make mine better (visually). What you do with iClone is sic. As you said in your description this is art house so the video should be viewed as art. One flaw as someone mentioned below is some of the camera movements are choppy and that did detract from the overall effect. »
«It's always good to experiment to see what works with the viewers (I certainly try to tackle every genre myself). So here's some feedback on this artistic endeavor. I also have a hard time trying to understand this. The ominous music and dark color schemes indicate something gone wrong, but other than that I can only make a guess (see next paragraph). The edits are a bit abrupt as well, with sudden jumps to a wider angle of what we were just viewing, which don't really add much to the experience.
If I was to hazard a guess as to the purpose behind this movie, I would liken the girl on the boat to the flowers on the island. Alone and stranded. The girl does not have her hands on the oars, and just floats at the mercy of the tides, just like the flowers are at the mercy of the sunless sky and desolate terrain--with apparently no one to take care of them (referring both to the girl and the flowers). However, this allegory could be made more apparent by cutting between the flowers and the girl using identical shots (camera view, pans, angles). »
