«Again its not a problem with criticism.
I have absolutely no problems with the bizz review who didnt like the film in itself!
I dont care if its criticism or compliment, I am not that shallow, I would hate having only compliments in fact, that would mean my work is flat, blank and doesnt make really react people.
What I cant bear, its seing people acting as some producer asking me recutting my stuff, to me thats total disrespect, because I made it this way, thats my choice, you are free to not like it, you are free to like it, but you have not the right to impose your own view on it by asking to recut it.
I am sorry but thats the most absurd thing I ever read.
I dont know if I am very clear, because its not my native language, but I try to explain my point of view as best as possible.»
«Again its not a problem with criticism.
«Take this criticism with a grain of salt, Babar. It's perfectly valid anyways. Directors may do as they damn well please, but if you want to improve and evolve your craft, then at least take these notes into consideration. Compliments are lovely, but I find real criticism FAR more valuable, and it has helped me improve so much faster. If you don't feel like recutting, at least work on making your ideas more accessible. Even the weirdest film art that I've seen have a clear direction in what they want to say. Just keep hammering away at it. You're a talented guy!»
«Also I would add its a clear lack of respect, asking for an edit is not your business at all.
Its my own problem.
Have a bit some respect for film and director, we do our stuff how we want, then people are free to appreciate it or not for what it is.
But asking for edit is the most absurd thing I ever heard. thats my choice as a machinima director, you have to respect it. Damn. Crazy attitude there.»
«I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with theBiz, Starto and Timothy on this. This film deserves to be recut because it's about 30 minutes too long. I reckon it could have been summed up in a nice little 10-15 minute runtime whilst still maintaining the majority of imagery I'm sure you would have wanted to keep in. Hit and miss, but when it hits... it hits good!!
«Some phenomenal moments in here mixed in with a whole lotta excess. That scene with the ants with Bolero was really great, as was that museum gallery walkthrough (that little moving sideshow with all the movie clips was really cool). When the woman gets out of the train and walks through the city, I was completely absorbed by how moody and atmospheric it all was (WONDERFUL JOB). Also really liked that sequence at the end with all the blue paint. My biggest problem with this film is that the great moments are diluted in a sea of confusing scenes that run on for faaaaaaar too long. I agree with the others, there's a great ten minute video in here, but regardless of my personal taste, I believe that what you wrought is incredibly beautiful, maddening, and unforgettable in parts. It's video art through and through, and of course it's not going to appeal to everyone. A lot of great visuals pulled off with masterful panache. It's too bad that it's rather marred by a lack of self-control. And I'm okay with that.»
«I never said I hated your film. I really dont understand you. I give up. I dont have alter-ego's also. You keep insisting I rated this film 6 times. Well I suggest you ask the moderator and he will tell you that I voted ONE time and ONE time only. You are unbearable. Bye.»
«No ratings are not interesting, not to me though, so you can rate it on 5, on 10, on 100, on 10000 on 1 billion, I just dont care of that, all matter is the opinion, and I have absolutely no problem if people finds my movie boring or shit or silly.
My only problem is you troll it permanently (here or by mails, or on forums as we saw your silly thread with the nickname machinimator), and you try to force me to reedit my own film all the time ONLY because you didnt liked it, and thats an absolute lack of respect.
You can hate my film, no problem with that, but asking all the time I have to be urged to change and to reedit my film, I can tell there you can fuck off.»
«My rating and opinion should be just as valid as anyone elses on here should it not? Unless of course criticism is something you are not good with, in which case you should not have your creations. Why is my rating more ridiculous than anyone else? Is it because you don't agree with it?
Why you have to aggressive I dont know, Why are you attacking me? I never said I was a dictator and wtf has stalin got to do with this?
You dont have to change anything no? You are free to do as you please no? I simply state my opinion and you seem intent on attacking me. I have better things to do then to campaign you change your film. You are ridiculous here.
I have better things to do than be attacked for having an opinion. I suggest in future you dont share your videos because criticism is something you are not good with.
Good luck in the future. Bye.»
«no but you are quite unbearable because you seem to think than your opinion and your ratings on 10, on 100, which all are more ridiculous than the other one, are so important, that it must impose me to change the nature of my film.
Or you are crazy, or you are dumb, but in all case you are not Staline, and you are not my dictator, so I have no problem you dont like it, but dont use your opinion to impose me to change my film and to harass me there or by mails.
Thank you very much.»
«There is no need to get defensive. You upload it to a environment of opinion and discussion. An environment that also has a rating system in place. There really is no need to become aggressive, Especially when you upload a video to both share the experience and generate feedback.
I did not say I am your producer (this is machinima, dont take it too seriously) I simply stated both my opinion and suggestion. You are free to do as you wish no? Relax.»
«No my intention has never changed, but I dont want my intention being an official rule, I want let free people taking and interpretating like how they want even if its far of my intention thats doesnt matter, thats what interests me.
You are free to not like it, again you are not my producer and you have no final cut, and you can keep your rating for yourself, I think no one cares you rate it 0 or 100% damn.»
«I understood it to be a waste of 13 minutes, then you explain that the camera cannot escape no matter where it goes, it is trapped just like humanity. You then explain to me the ants are basically human beings, always moving but not really going anywhere. Now you say its a big joke and can be interpreted as you like. If thats true, why the explanation? I really dont understand that. Its like you have changed your mind on your intentions and I cannot help but feel betrayed there.
I urge you to do a re-edited release and either cut the excess down or eliminate it completely, I would feel comfortable rating it 8/10 then I am sure. As it stands I cannot give the greenhouse an 8/10 when the tomatoes are a 4/10.»
«You make big confusion there, its not because I said it was a joke, its supposed to have no sense.
It has a sense, and it can be understood in many ways. I let the audience decide that alone. But I am honest, my film is not a serious and pretentious thing, my aim was not that.»
«Babar, I am confused. You are now stating the opening is a big joke and what your intentions were are not important, Yet you explained to me personally that the opening is very serious and a reflection of not only humans but also the inability to escape no matter where it is that we look. You stated that it is a very integral part of the whole video, but now you say its just a big joke that was fun, nothing more. I'm sorry but the bizz is correct, it is guilty as charged of being too excessive. I cannot help but feel that if your visual metaphor of humanity or as you now call it a big joke was cut down considerably the video overall would fare much better.
Whenever something interesting appeared it was counter-punched by absurdity. The web cam girls might be to you what you call surrealism but to me it was just not needed. Everytime this video showed potential it was hit back down by an inability to control perhaps your own sensibilities. I cannot help but wonder what the experience would have been like had it just shown the museum part without the excessive nonsense. Its like you created a greenhouse and then neglected the tomatoes.
Visual there are some good things here, but as an overall piece its very hard to appreciate because you spit in the face of the audience with excess beyond comprehension.
I can sum this video up like this. You took 40 minutes of my time and I want 30 minutes of them returned back to me. You made a 10 minute film in 40 minutes and that is the biggest shame of all.
Destino - 60/100»
«Thx for reviews!
Well thebizz I know its special film, but well I have a logic in it, in fact the story is simple thing, with many surreal things in it.
Also it has no pretention, the opening was a big joke to build, and I had a lot of fun doing that, I know it can reject people, but I had big enjoyment doing it.
Then, its a very simple and basic story, a woman visiting a museum and escaping through some art movements, first impressionism (with water on the camera), then surrealism (with laughs), then Expressionnism (this time the painting are drawing on the body of the girl).
Then she escapes by Paul Citroen's masterpiece inside metropolis.
I love paul citroen work, I find it so cool and so genius, its only photographies of usual cities that he sticks together in some way, it gives the render of a whole unique city that is crazy, dark and frightening.
So my idea was to give life to this city, by replacing this photos by videos, and more, by movies with crazy architectures in it.
That was the idea, then a train coming from nowhere arrives and embarks our main character inside the virtual, decadent and surreal metropolis.
I put some references in the film also, the ending is a clear reference to the blue work of Yves klein who paints in blue people, women, and reality, and drops blue balloons to blue sky for a complete confusion, which is nice poetry to me.
I put references to cinema also, as Brazil with the shopping cart, to dressed to kill by brian de palma, with the beginning of the museum scene and the paintings of gorilla and the lady.
The webcam girls sequence is an absurdity, what I'd like was the edit of it and showing there was only loading between all this girls, this is like a portray of what love can become this days, but I didnt want to make it depressive, dark, I always want to keep a surreal feel, and what is the most important in surrealism, to my mind, is the humour. So its not really first degree film, and it can be take as massively a joke.
But well I dont want to spoil so much my intentions, because I dont know if its interesting to really know what was the director aim, in fact in this film I wanted to let the audience completely free, free to think what they want of this, free to understand or not the same thing I intended to do.
I had many enjoyment doing this stuff though! I am sorry for my bad english, I hope I have been quite clear, its hard to be precize and not appearing as a silly guy when you explain hard things in a foreign language!»
«Massive excess everywhere and the worst culprit is the opening scene which lasts 13 minutes. I freaking love Bolero but it didn't save the beginning from feeling like an endurance test or a dare.
But following this was a rather compelling museum scene. Yes it was slow but it was interesting and if the movie had started at 13:00 minutes I bet more folks would find this much more appealing. This is followed by the scrolling 5 minutes of feature film scenes set to a carnivalesque french song. Not unwatchable but excessive again. This is followed by another compelling segment of our main lady exiting a train and the upwardly mobile view of an apartment building. Surreal and interesting. Followed by 8 minutes of porn gal camera work. Is it a joke? The music says so but I have no freaking idea. Finally wrapping up the flick is some architecture and blue smoke. Overplayed as much as anything else in this flick.
I've enjoyed many of your other flicks. Every time I thought "damn this is sure going on and on" I figured you had a point. In the end a mood is created. This is a work that I would describe as truly surreal because the excess takes it to that level. I tried hard to follow the path figuring this as a travel film but in the end I couldnt decipher it. It fucks with the viewer in its excess. Still I appreciate the ambition and the attempt at something different.»
«Destino is one of these machinimas that does not look like any others. It's more an experience, a sensorial trip accross the ages and the art movements, than a consistent story with a start and a end but I still enjoyed it. The movie is full of funny ideas and references, and the soundtrack is great, which makes it more interesting to follow than many other more conventional films. I think the key to enjoy the film is to forget about any common-sense, simply because there are none here, and just let yourself be carried in this trip you won't forget. My favourites scenes in the movie; the urban sequence and the blue painting at the end, simply beautiful. The webcam girls scene is funny too (this scene will definitely generate controversy) but I took it more as a joke.
Of course the movie is not perfect. The opening scene is too long, and its voluntary lack of technical control make it sometimes hard to watch. A few cuts to make the duration 5 to 10 minutes shorter would have made the film even better in my opinion. But this is no big deal, Destino is a scoring machinima and a experience to live. Well done! 4/5 »
