«very emotional movie»
«This was an amazing film production value-wise. People who don't work with MovieStorm may not fully realize all the extra work that must have gone into this film in order to present a believable depiction of an airship and populate it with the necessary props. (Where did you get the telephone reciever???? I want one!). I loved the cell shading look and though it went really well with alternate reality theme of the film.
I would have to mildly agree with those that say the plot could have been tightened up a bit but it by no means ruined the film for me. In fact it seems to me it may be undergoing a more truthful evaluation in that regard then the vast majority of films that are posted on this site. Then again, Clockwork won the Machinima Expo Best Film and I guess it's natural to make comparisons. I am thankful you made the decision to make a film that was so different and showed us another side of your artistry.
I almost forgot. The voice acting was just superb. What a great cast! »
«Finally got around to watching this (been meaning to for a long time). Wow, Ive never seen a flick with such amazing production values that is so marred by the afore mentioned (in other reviews) plot issues. The sets design, camera work, cell shading and voice acting are all wildly top notch and enjoyable. Dialog sounds natural, characters look good. Lots of attention to detail and you have set up a world people haven't seen in moviestorm before.
But then the police officers actions are insanity without any buildup whatsoever. While this may be how it works in real life it just doesn't work at all for the audience of a narrative film. You show attention to detail with the garlic odor plot device but fail to consider that the first gunshot in a leaky balloon would have sparked the explosion (at least to my knowledge) and the missing radio communication is jarring. Even the final act of the prisoner fails to work as he gallantly...kills himself? The strange part is a lot of these issues could have been avoided with small changes to the script that left all the basics in place.
I don't think anyone else could have created such a beautiful setup with these tools. But in the end it just didn't work for me. Still, it made me think and consider the process and results more than anything else in the last year. And yes, its definitely worth a look for the production values alone. I'm contrasted...hehe.»
«The amount of work which must have gone into this is mind boggling. I'm truly impressed at the visuals, sets, props and character acting, but most of all, the airship. I dearly wish I could create something like this to use in my own movies. I've replayed the scene of it appearing over the buildings again and again.
Having said that I have to agree with what's been said by others, there were definitely some weird holes in the plot and a couple of the characters could have been developed better. But this is a great movie and I'm really looking to see more of the same. Wonderful stuff!»
«I was going into this expecting a lot but felt dissapointed. After watching Clockwork, I thought your next piece would be even better, but this just didn't quite hit that par of which Clockwork did for me. I'm dissapointed, but I can tell you put work into this and thats what matters.
I thought the visuals were good, but the cel shaded effect in this kind of film, they weren't needed (in my opinion)...it would of been fine without them, I just don't understand why this had to be cel-shaded, they just felt unnessecary but thats how you felt it should be and I respect that opinion seeing as you are the director of this. Another problem was some elements of the plot, they just seemed...out of place and didn't fit, like the one pilot and the unusual behavior of the guard.
However top notch directing with great sets and props. Nice voice acting from the cast and some good music also. I personally prefer 'Clockwork' to this, and with Cloud Angel's problems, it's still a good film, and you can tell how much work was put into this. I'm sure your next film will be enjoyable and I look forward to seeing it, but to round this one up overall, it's just a good film.
★★★★✩ - 4 Stars»
«An ensemble, character-based narrative? Airships? Alternate history? It's like this was made to push my buttons! I really enjoyed it. The voice-acting and visuals were superb and a few simple (by which I mean inconspicuous, I'm sure they were far from simple!) things like the reflection and bed-linen effects blew me away. The shot of the airship emerging over the rooftops was breathtaking.
I agree that the character's actions were a little all over the place at times, but this was a high quality production and a rare example of narrative taking a distant back-seat to spectacle, without affecting the viewer's enjoyment. Slick work, five stars!»
«The Flying Dude said; "I can only second what most people before me already wrote." I would have to agree with that. This movie is really good.
I didn't think the cop was well thought out, but I think everyone else was. Maybe you should have given the cop a background of anger issues that could have been said before the journey by another cop or something.
Besides that one issue of mine, I think this is very impressive.»
«I thought that it looked wonderful and sounded even better. It sounded like it was scored for the film. The acting was overall, top notch. Very engrossing, professional level machinima film amking that cut no corners and crosses the T's.
On the flip side,I wondered why only ONE person on such a large airship could pilot it, and who was driving when the captain was hanging out at the bar. Why did the guard lose his marbles?
Still, this was a minor distraction in comparison to the tremendous impact of the production overall.
«Interesting tale with some great visuals. My big issues are the massive plot holes that left me puzzled, but beyond those i was entertained. I would have enjoyed more reasons behind the sudden madness of the cop and the interaction with the others.
I think the dialog was pretty good and very well acted, a solid cast that delivers.
Your direction was spot on, and the cell shaded look, something I dont normally like, worked well in this.
I think the script had real potential and I very much enjoy your work, so seeing your films is a real treat for me
Overall I must say that this was enjoyable and well crafted
«A very entertaining and solid piece of work. The look of this film really stood out for me, giving it a very professional feel. It was very well scripted and the pacing was just about right. Some good acting by the cast, too. The soundtrack and music fitted superbly.
Certain elements of the plot didn't quite work for me, such as only one pilot and the behaviour of the guard. Then again, I'm thinking logically, and logic doesn't always lend itself to an entertaining story. Which is what this film is - twenty minutes of thoroughly enjoyable entertainment.
I recommend anyone to watch this film. It's well worth it.
«Cloud Angel certainly is unique, through it's imagery and presentation.
I found the story to be highly engaging with the characters really coming to life. There were some terrific performances by a mainly british cast and I just thought to myself, (wowser, It would be a dream to get to work with some of these people)
I liked your style of direction with some long shot pans for the exterior scenes. Some scenes however felt a little bit stretched with the camera zoomed out to a near max but for the most part, it worked.
Great work with the special effects too, which I must say was intergrated well. Everything felt seamless. Being a noob on MS, this certainly gives one an idea of just what can be done with this software.
Overall Cloud Angel is a solid film with an intruiging story and I will be watching this again for sure.
Until the next time..
Nuke Well in the Clouds!!!»
«Well, I'll be honest. That was odd.
The sets and props looked great, but there was something off in the colour timing to me. Everyone had thick black lines around them, and some of the visuals were just... odd. (I downloaded the original file from Vimeo)
Events, as you say, definitely unfolded.»
«This movie features superb visuals, good music and good voice acting... and all that is marred by an unshakable feeling of "what the hell?"
The Upsides - The visuals are amazing. Cloud Angel is majestic from both inside and outside, a beautiful ship that feels posh and luxurious as it seems. The Voice Acting is impressive and done well. The Music was especially amazing.
The downsides - Oh gee, what the hell? The movie is fraught with completely illogical plot holes that make you wonder "what the hell?" you want to tell me that out of all the officers available to them, they'd send the one who neglects procedures, drinks on duty, is borderline psychotic AND just shoots someone for not doing as told? That doesn't hold water. Any commercial flight has at least 2 crewmen onboard capable of flying the vessel exactly for situations where the captain's been downed. As well, what happened to good old "Radio in for help?"... Like I said... it makes the audience sit and wonder "What the hell?" and ends up diminishing their pleasure
Overall - It was good. It could've been better.
7.5 out of 10 on the Rogue Scale
Loved it - the settings, the airship, the interior - it's sooo beautiful! Loved the look and the camera-work, sound and voices were just great!
I'm not even sure of how you did some of the stuff you did... .. and where you found all the beautiful props. Just great!»
